Really simple DIY project & perfect way to revive your basic clutch!

1. Use gold metallic spray paint (If you prefer another color, go for it!)

2. Tape off the width of the section you want spraypainted.

3. Depending on the pigment of the spray paint and the material of your clutch, you will need to use one to two coats.

4. Let it dry overnight just to be safe!

First off, let me get this off my chest. If you are going to Essence Music Festival down in the great city of New Orleans this weekend, I hate you. We can be friends still, but alas; I hate you. Got it? Moving on….

Luckily, I’m still a pretty nice guy, and anybody trying to spend money in New Orleans’ toursim based economy is a friend of mine. So I’ll help yall out a lil bit. I’ve gotten a bunch of requests for some my favorite restaurants, hangouts, and any knowledge of events going on this weekend, so decided I would bring em together on here. Without further ado:

Restaurants:

Port of Call @ 838 Esplanade Ave. - This little divey joint on the east edge of the French Quarter serves up one of the best hamburgers you will have in your natural born life. Instead of french fries, you get a large baked potato on the side. I’m pretty sure thats all thats on the menu. If there is other stuff, I don’t know a single person who has ever ordered any of it. Trust me, Cheesebuger, loaded baked potato, and a Monsoon to drink. If you going the virgin route, get the Fruit Punch. Not sure if it is on the menu but just ask for the Fruit Punch.

Drago’s @ Hilton New Orleans Riverside - Looking for a higher end seafood dining experience, then Drago’s is for you. Great food, cool setting, feel fancy. For a <strike>more down home</strike> cheaper seafood experience in this general area, try Deanie’s Seafood or Acme Oyster House. Mulate’s is worth mentioning, as well as Mother’s, which finds itself on a lot of Travel Guide lists so watch out for MOBS of people.

Hangouts:

*Focusing on NON Bourbon St. places. You’ll find that fine without my help. Make sure you get a Hand Grenade from Tropical Isle (there are two), and DO NOT MISS a Hurricane from Pat O’Brien’s. They have an awesome space, with multiple bars, an outdoor courtyard and a Dueling Piano Bar.

Frenchmen Street - Not too far from the French Quarter (where Decatur, Esplanade, and Frenchmen streets meet) you have the Frenchmen Street drag where locals tend to hang out more so than Bourbon. This is a fantastic area to catch live music from one of the many jazz clubs and such in the area. Be sure to check the schedule for Snug Harbor and you might catch a Jazz great. Blue Nile is really popular and i think Kermit Ruffins is doing a set on July 1st.

The Howlin’ Wolf @ 907 S. Peters - Another great live music venue. Always have great local artists and national acts.

Harrah’s Casino @ 8 Canal St. - Considering a huge number of guests will be staying in Canal Street’s many hotels, I can pretty much guarantee that Harrah’s and its dance club, “Masquerade” should be packed nightly.

House of Blues @ 225 Decatur -Be sure to check who is gonna be there before going.

The Metro & The Republic are worth checking out and the Hookah has a few parties being thrown by a friend of mine. (Essence of Celebration)

That should be enough to get you through the weekend. If your my friend, remember I hate you but you can hit me up for any additional guidance. If your not a friend, your probably wouldn’t hit me up anyway. Either way, hope this helps. Oh yeah, get ready to hear bounce mixes if your in the clubs and all that. I’d assume all yall know what New Orleans bounce is after yall saw that Wally World joint all over World Star lol.

Figured now was as good a time as any other.

Ingredients: - 1 Handle (1.75L) of decent vodka. Doesn’t have to be top shelf, but if it tastes like death, infusing it with Strawberries will just make strawberry death.

4lbs of fresh strawberries.

Glass container big enough to hold all the strawberries and vodka. You should be able to find something suitable for a few bucks.

Cheese cloth/ Coffee filter / Anything to get the bits of strawberries out.

Procedure:

It’s actually fairly simple. First wash the strawberries and remove all the tops. Cut them up into chunks (Fours worked for me) because you want to expose the flesh of the fruit to the vodka. After this is done, place the fruit into your container(s). At this point I sprinkled a little sugar in, just enough to cover the top, to sweeten things up a bit, but that’s completely optional. At this point comes the only hard part, waiting. Sit the container in a cool dark place, the refrigerator if you can, and wait. I’d say at least 36 hours. After that, you need to filter the chunks of strawberry out, including all the little seeds and everything that is probably floating in the vodka now. Once its particle free, its ready to drink!

I’ve done this twice now, and it came out GREAT both times. Its been a big hit at my house and goes pretty fast. I have my own little martini that I make with it, but I’ll save that for another post. In the mean time, see what you can come up with.

So in an effort to beat the cold (and creeping depression), a few friends and I set out to try different restaurants around NYC. Prior to this weekend, I’ll admit we were 0-2, but thank goodness, this week we happened upon something noteworthy. Dons Bogam is located on E. 32nd Street between Madison and 5th Avenue. It’s a Korean BBQ spot with charming decor and GREAT food.

We started with the spiked crimsonade cocktail pictured here.

Made with crimson punch, fruit tea, lemonade and soju (comparable to vodka), it was different, but definitely enjoyable (might actually try something like this at home :) We followed our cocktails with an appetizer of shrimp dumplings and a main course which included brisket, tuna, shrimp, chicken and veggies cooked on a stove in the center of the table.

It was a little pricey (about $50 per person for drinks, appetizers and entrees) but it was worth every penny. So, if you’re feeling a little fancy and you’re visiting the Big Apple, try stopping for lunch or dinner at Dons Bogam or if you’re not in NYC seek out a Korean BBQ spot near you.

There are cheaper sound bars out there but the connectivity features made this the easy option for me. Consider this my recommendation.

I went straight to monoprice, then I remembered that all my friends might not know about this wonderful place. Unless your running cable through the wall, over crazy long distances, or just need the cord RIGHT NOW, there is pretty much NO reason to pay more than a few dollars for an HDMI cord.
